Hi, I’m Laura and I am the owner and sole proprietor of Delightful Doggies, which serves the central/south Denver metro area. Delightful Doggies currently offers in-home pet sitting and dog walking services. I am an Animal Behavior College certified dog trainer and dog training will also be part of Delightful Doggies’ services soon, so please check back for updates or contact me for inquiries about training. I have certification in pet first aid and CPR, and am also currently working on certification as a veterinary assistant through Animal Behavior College.
My passion for animals began at a very early age. I grew up in rural Kentucky, surrounded by farms and all kinds of animals. After going to college to study creative writing and anthropology, I began supporting myself with administrative and office management jobs. My career took off in many directions: being a sales and marketing coordinator for an IT firm, doing business development and grant writing for a green nonprofit, being a music band manager and published music journalist, and running my own public relations firm.
Yet my original love for animals never went away; in fall of 2010, I began volunteering for MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. Walking dogs and socializing cats, assisting in special events and mobile adoptions, and participating in their CHAMPS program designed to help shelter dogs learn basic obedience through positive reinforcement opened my eyes and heart to what I truly desired: making a career out of helping animals. So, in 2011, I began Animal Behavior College’s certified Professional Dog Trainer program (certified as of May 2012) and began their Veterinary Assistant training program in spring of 2012.
Doing both the vet assistant training and the dog trainer program was a no-brainer for me. The links between physical health and behavior do exist, and I wanted to be a more well-rounded professional by having both sets of knowledge. It’s really exciting to be learning and growing in this path, and I am excited to apply what I have been learning to help pet owners in my community. Ultimately, I hope to make an impact with this knowledge and experience for the greater good, in addition to making a living out of what I love!
Community service is also at the core of Delightful Doggies’ mission and philosophy. With the growth of Delightful Doggies will be time, resources and money given to area shelters like MaxFund, in the hopes that homeless animals can find “furever” homes! When you support Delightful Doggies, you can feel good that you are supporting a local business that gives back.
